Pastor Staehling (Jerry) was ordained a pastor of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on June 4, 1967. Pastor
Jerry is married to Marjo Staehling and they have four adult
children and three grandchildren.
At Atonement, Pastor Jerry is the Senior Pastor and for the
past nineteen years has had overall responsibility for the
congregation's ministry. Pastor Jerry works with the congregations
human resources, teaches adult bible study classes, and does
pastoral care among the congregations membership.
In the community Pastor Jerry serves on the Board of Directors
of the St. Cloud Hospital, and serves on the City of St. Cloud
Planning Advisory Committee.
Pastor Rodger is a second vocation pastor and has worked
prior to his ordination in the financial services industry. He comes to us
from Hope Lutheran Church in Chaska where he has served from 1997 to 2001.
Since August 2001 he has been on disability leave due to a vocal cord injury.
He has fully recovered from this injury and is currently doing interim work.
Pastor Rodger brings a host of ministry gifts to us and is excited about our
congregational transformation and our new model for lay leadership in
ministry. Leading worship, evangelism, preaching, teaching, and youth and
family life are some of his strong interests. He also considers himself to be
an innovator with a passion for transformational and redevelopment of
ministry. He is also musical and artistic.
It is important for the congregation to understand that in our
new leadership model Pastor Rodger and Pastor Jerry will be co-pastors. The
old titles of Senior and Associate which in the past have indicated a
hierarchy of authority will no longer be applicable. The new structure means
that both pastors are equally supportive of the congregation’s lay leadership
and responsible for the pastoral ministry .
