Education - NOT JUST FOR SUNDAY MORNINGS ANYMORE!
Look for the sign-up table in the narthex. We have an
assortment of learning opportunities to fit a variety of
interests! These include:
Tuesday Morning Bible Study
This on-going Bible study meets on Tuesday mornings
at 7:00 and dismisses promptly at 8:00. We are currently
studying Paul 's letter to the Galations.
Adult Bible Study/Discussion Group
"The Purpose Driven
Life"..."What on earth am I here for?" If you would like to know the
answer to this question, or would like to embark on a live-changing spiritual
journey, pleas join a small group studying "The Purpose Driven Life".
You will be asked to commit o reading a 5-7 page chapter each day for 40 days.
Also, you will be encouraged to join a group of 6-10 people to discuss the
readings each week for 7 weeks during Lent. Life with Christ is too good
to keep to yourself so you will be encouraged to invite a friend, neighbor or
family member. We hope that Atonement will be able to reach out to all
people on the northside during the Lenten season. Please be a part of
this life-changing journey. Watch for sign up opportunities!
Bad Girls of the Bible... This book by Liz Curtis Higgs will be
the topic of a new Bible study that will meet on Thursdays at noon
beginning September 18. If you have not signed up yet but would be
interested in attending, call Karen or Deb at 252-6203. This group
is not limited to women...men are most welcome!
Got Question? Get Alpha! ... Is Christianity
boring, untrue, and irrelevant? Join us Monday evenings from 6:00-8:30
beginning September 22 for this 10-week practical introduction and renewal to
the Christian Faith. Come for dinner each evening, hear a talk from Pastor
Roger Prois, and meet new friends. To RSVP, sign up in the church office
or contact Nancy Sturlugson.
Garden Club...Thanks to Donna Gartland, the
plantings in our courtyards are weed free and beautiful again! In order
to keep them that way, let's start a "Garden Club"! The first Tuesday
afternoon of each month -- beginning in September at 1:00 pm -- anyone who
likes to "putter" in the garden or "putz" with shrubs is invited to assist
Donna in keeping our grounds looking spectacular!
BeFriender News...We
are currently looking for new people to be trained in our BeFriender Ministry.
Are you a person who is concerned about others who are going through difficult
times? Do you have compassion for those who are suffering from physical
and/or emotional problems? Do you enjoy just listening to people and
their concerns? If any of these describe you, we would like you to
consider becoming a BeFriender. We are looking for men and women willing
to give of themselves to help others. If you would like more information
on the BeFriender Ministry, there will be a current BeFriender in the narthex
on Saturday evenings and in the Fellowship Hall each Sunday to answer
questions or you may call Mata Carlson . Our next training will
begin February 28.
Atonement Small Group
Ministries
Small
Group Forming….Pastor
Don Olsen starting a small group beginning in September 7, at 10:30 am.
The content of this group will be “Current Issues Facing the ELCA and the
Whole Christian Church”. Frequency of meetings, meeting times, and
location meetings will be determined by the participants. All are welcome!
New Outreach Small Group... With the addition
of Pastor Rodger and the variety of changes that have taken place at Atonement
over the past several years, I would like to completely redesign the web site
for Atonement. I would like to do this using our small group model so
would like to invite anyone who has had or would like to gain experience in
web page design and maintanence to contact me about starting such a small
group. Summer is a time when many of us have a little more time for
creative activities so I hope we can start this small group soon.

Ross.
