                                                                                                The Women of Atonement

The Women of Atonement encompasses all women who are members of this congregation.  This group function is based on these four areas:
"        Christian fellowship and support for one another
"        Inspiration and education
"        Service to others
"        Stewardship through the giving of time, talent and treasure.

Within the Women of Atonement there are several circles, or Bible study groups.  These circles meet monthly at a variety of times.

The Women of Atonement host several special events every year.  The Advent Tea Celebration is their major fundraiser.  The Advent Tea began as a gift to the community held on the first Saturday in the Advent season.  It is a time when friends, family and neighbors can come together and enjoy holiday treats, hot beverages, great music and wonderful fellowship.  The proceeds from the Advent Tea Celebration are divided among various community service projects.  Another special event is the Mother-Daughter Luncheon which is held in the spring.

For more information regarding the Women of Atonement contact a member of the Coordinating Committee.

Atonement is a Youth & Family congregation based on the following:

The Five Principles of the Life of the Church

1. Faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships - often on our own homes.

2. The church is a living partnership between the ministry of the congregation and the ministry of the home.

3. Where Christ is present in faith, the home is church, too.

4. Faith is caught more that it is taught.

5. If we want Christian children and youth, we need Christian adults/parents.
The Four Keys to Nurture Faith

1. Caring Conversations

2. Devotions

3. Service

4. Rituals and Traditions

We as Christian adults need to guide our children as being their AAA Road Servants.

ELCA National Youth Gathering 2006
San Antonio, Texas
July 5th - 9th ~ July 12th - 16th

Every three years the ELCA assembles the youth of our church in a celebration of worship, fellowship, service and learning. In 2006 the National Youth Gathering will be held in the historic city of San Antonio, Texas, home of the Alamo. Over 40,000 youth will invad the city over a two week period. The youth from Atonement will be attending the second week of the gathering, July 12th - 16th. Eighteen senior high students and two adult leaders will travel to San Antonio together to share this exciting journey in their faith life.

Over the past year these students ( and their parents) have been working hard to raise funds for this trip. Some of their fundraising activities included an Easter breakfast, a congregation cookbook, car wash and the first Cinco de Mayo festival.

In addition to fundraising the youth and their leaders met monthly to plan and prepare for their experience. Please remember these young disciples in your prayers.

Rotational Sunday School...  .  Here at Atonement we have a Rotational Sunday School program. Each Sunday morning at the 9:00 am service (except on Kids Church Sundays) children in preschool -6th grade come into worship for the children's sermon after which they are excused to go to their rotations.

Registration for students aged 3 through grade 6 is necessary. Registration forms are available here on the site or in the church office.

This year students are studying Luther's Small Catechism - including the 10 Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, Baptism and Communion. In our rotation model, lessons are reinforced as the children visit stations which include, science, computer, music, art, games, food and going deeper.

Parents and other adults are encouraged to help with one or more rotations and to serve on the planning team. Call or e-mail Karen at the church office.

Day Camp
The week of July 21st-24th staff from Luther Crest Bible Camp will be here at Atonement offering Day Camp for children kindergarten through grade 3.  Children meet at church at 9:00 am, travel to one of our local parks, and return to church at 3:00 pm.  This camp can accommodate only 40 children, so early registration is advised.  The registration form is on this web site and also available in the church office.

The 2008 Day Camp theme - Expect the Unexpected - focuses on Amos 5:24: "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like and ever flowing stream." How God's justice is based not on our works but Gods grace and forgiveness.  Each day children will learn about the Bible through stories, crafts, games, songs and worship.

Luther Crest Bible Camp
An extensive menu of summer programming is available at Luther Crest Bible Camp near Alexandria, Minnesota.  See the link to their website.  We have established the week of July 22-27 as Atonement week at Luther Crest and encourage our youth to register for a program during that week.  Our church staff will visit camp during that week.  Atonement is member of the Luther Crest Corporation, therefore Atonement youth attending camp receive reduced rates.
